Walk around and try every light - headlights, indicators, brake lights, fog lights and number plate lights.
Top Up Fluids
Screenwash, brake fluid, coolant and oil should all be at the correct level.
Wipers and Washers
Wipers should be smear-free, washers should reach the screen.
Tyres
Look at tread depth (minimum 1.6mm), no cuts, no bulges, correct pressures.
Number Plates
Clean, undamaged, correct font and spacing.
Warning Lights
Any orange or red dashboard warning lights should be investigated before the test.
